Breast Reconstruction After Traditional Mastectomy: Case 2
Description
48 yo woman with left breast cancer treated with double mastectomy and radiation to left chest. Delayed breast reconstruction with latissimus flap and tissue expanders. The radiated left breast is reconstructed with a tissue expander and latissimus flap. The flap borrows skin and muscle from the back, allowing the skin to be stretched by the tissue expander. The right breast is reconstructed with a tissue expander. Both are filled to 360cc. Radiation treatment causes the left breast reconstruction to appear smaller, even though the expanders are the same size. 3rd surgery: Replacing expanders with 415cc silicone breast implants and fat graft from thighs to both breasts Different-sized implants are needed to create symmetry. Results are 5 months after 4th and final surgery.
